November 9, 2003MONTHS ago, Verizon announced that they were offering DSL in my home area. My wife called, and with switching over cell phone and long distance to them in a package, DSL was only gonna be $20/mo., so she signed up. Boxes (router, modem) appeared, and sat. Wife called as to when we're gonna get it - oh, you can't have it, you're too far, and you'll have to send the boxes back! My wife made more calls, and more boxes appeared. More calls and we were told definitely can't have it. Then, phone bill arrives, and we're charged for DSL! More phone calls, more arguments, and finally I have DSL! The status window claims 100Mbps, but I don't believe it, but it is definitely faster than dial-up.
I dunno what's up with Verizon, neighbors on my block all got the same run-around - you can have it/no you can't - I can see 1 person in a company being mis-informed, but we're talking dozens.
Took the joy away from getting DSL.
