The 2001 to 2002 wiring conversion is part of the sub install guide at www.PTdiy.net
I wrote the conversion and posted photos.
It's all there.

July 17, 2006Sure glad im not the only one who has been toying with this. id love to put in my two rockford 10' subs with a 500w mtx amp. but im not really into sacrificing the storage/trunk space. was curious to see if anybody had any ideas as to where to put the subs.I have my amp put under the drives seat. sadly enuf ill probably have to get a different head unit to hook it up to.
July 18, 2006Messed around too long and the Mopar subs that were marked down to just over $100 were gone. The install looked a bit involved too. Ended up buying the Infinity Basslink II 200 watt powered sub. Nice size, and mounted it on the left hand side of the rear cargo. Leaving plenty of room for other stuff. Replaced the pillar and door speakers w/ Infinty Reference also, kept the factory head unit and dash speakers for now, but put in a 50 watt per channel amp for the rear pillars, and stuffed the pillars w/ polyfil.
July 18, 2006I have a thin box in the back with 2 8" subs. Pumps pretty good for a small set. It is only about 8" thick and about the witdth of the back seats (from the backside). Still have room to haul stuff and it sounds 1000 times better than stock. It doesn't shake everyone's windows as I go by, but , it does hit hard enough to make my rear view mirror pulse to the beat.....just enough. Could always use more, but I laready had this small box from one of my other cars...so I use it.

October 4, 2006yeah the mopar woofer is strong lol too strong sometimes
October 4, 2006Yeah the stock door speakers surprised me..I can feel the air coming out of them as they hit when I have it turned up....cool!
November 20, 2006I have recently read that the Mopar sub comes already installed in a rear panel that replaces the original one, at least for '01 PT's. This wud mean having to specify the interior color scheme when ordering. Does ne one kno if they r still done this way or do u just get the speaker an amp an install it in the existing panel these days?
June 7, 2007Where can i find a factory subwoofer for the pt i can't find one at all. I do have a 10" bazooka tude that i haven't installed yet. But i want to keep my cargo space for the time being
