July 24, 2002Saw that this topic had no entries so thought I'd through a picture of my work/play station in for all to see. It was just one of the many casual shots I took when I purchased my digital camera to see what the pictures would look like. The computer is a Gateway Performance 1000 and I've had it for a year and have no problems except learning how to use it. Enjoy.
August 27, 2002Gotta get yourself a chair on wheels - try it, you'll like it!
August 27, 2002good idea... someday I'll take a picture of my setup....
August 27, 2002Don,
The problem with rolling chairs is that they seem to come only in black. The "Florida" room, where the computer is, has all white furniture and white pattered tiled floor. I bought plastic caps for the ends of the chair legs and the chair slides around pretty easy. It's also a pretty comfortable chair so I don't mind sitting there for a coupe of hours at a time.
October 26, 2002Well, it finally happened. The wife and I had a few discussions about who should use the computer. She's on to her second book writing and spends hours and I'm just messing around but spend quite a bit of time searching the web and going through my list of 8 different forums that I belong too, so it was inevitable that I got her another computer. Son had a spare Gateway and printer so all I had to do was set up a work station and buy a monitor. So now we're both happy.
Got her a rolling secretary chair from Wal-Mart also.
October 26, 2002That tower back there almost looks like an old server tower. Did it used to be one?
Keep On Crusin'
October 26, 2002It IS an old server tower. It's a Gateway 2000 from my son who had it in the basement and wasn't using it. I think it's loaded with Microsoft 97 but it's good enough for the wife to write her book with. Even has some stuff loaded into it that I don't have with my new computer. The tower doesn't even have a disk setup, only 5 inch floppys, but i can copy her work onto the floppy and transfer it to the new computer.
October 26, 2002I tell ya, if I was still at my old job I could hook you up with all sorts of programs. I've got all the Windows operating systems and Offices and other little cool programs that are to expensive to buy. I've been looking for an older server, but not too old, to house a few hard drives for all my MP3s and videos. That way I could keep it running all the time and just add to it or share with others. What's your wife's book about? And what was the first about? Did it sell pretty good?
Keep On Crusin'
October 27, 2002Her first book (at 1st Books.com) is still in the editing stages but should be out around Dec/Jan. It's a women's story of a girl growing up with MS. Essentially, it's her own life story. The second book is what she calls a childs mystery. I help her design the cover with the Adobe Photo Deluxe on the computer. I'll see if I can attach what we sent to the publishers...they have the final say on the format so it might come out a little different. Wife used a pen name of April Hamilton.
October 27, 2002Thats pretty cool. I hope those are #1 Best Sellers. I never could get interested in writing and english. I've always been a computer nerd and a car nut.
Keep On Crusin'
October 27, 2002I'm definately not a computer nerd....only had this thing for a year, but I'm learning fast. A car nut...YES. I belong to 4 car clubs, 2 with my Corvette and 2 with my PT. I'm logged on to 9 different forums (all car related..and you have probably already seen my garage...but in case you haven't.....
