August 29, 2005I got this carbon fiber hood scoop off Ebay for $90,great quality and buy.It is a direct replacement for a scoop on a Subaru WRX STI.Im thinking of making it fully functional but I gotta cut a whole in the hood.Has any body had any probs with the ram air hood, any water probs? If I install this without the cutting the hood I'd think it would put a lot of pressure on the hood while driving, the scoop would fill with rushing air but nowhere to go.Does it look to big for the hood?Any thoughts?
August 29, 2005David I hate to say it but I liked the other scoop better. from the front that scoop looks to big for the hood but the from the sides it looks ok.
August 29, 2005I kinda thought it looked too wide too, but the more I look at it the more I like it..it looks good!
August 29, 2005I kinda like it lifted off the hood.Theres 8 screw holes in a lip going around the bottom for a direct replacement on the Subaru but I could bolt this directly up to the hood.Stiil thinking though.
August 29, 2005My choice would be for it to sit flush to the hood.
August 29, 2005Hmmm after looking at this shot, IMO If the scoop was shortend an not as wide it would look a lot better.
I like the ram air hood scoop. an it lookes killer on the side shots, it is too wide for me. but that is my . I like the speedster hood scoop but cant find one like it. an I dont know how to make a good one or I would.
August 29, 2005Im gonna make it flush,so the hoods gonna have to be cut.Just gotta get it all lined up and measured right,Ill post some pics when its finished.
August 29, 2005Or you could make it like a shaker on the late 70's trans am/an the mach1 mustangs.
August 30, 2005Thats something I thought about too.I'd have to make larger cut but how would the scoop be supported underneath??I could have the scoop turned in either direction, facing back or forward? With it facing back I would'nt have any water getting into the compartment when it rained and the enigine would cool alot better. With it forward could I use it like ram air but water would get into the engine bay as well as any debris.I think it facing back would look pretty cool.
