July 8, 2006Hi everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone has ever to mod their toys? I found one of those RC Cruisers a while back, and am thinking of taking it to the next level. Now, my wife says i'm nuts, my friend says I got way too much time on my hands, and I say "you only live once, might as well enjoy it"!
My current plans are to head to the tint shop for free tint scraps to black out the windows, take an Ipod nano, and mount it in the back seat, and hook it up to a custom built speaker box, complete with a set of tweet's that should be pretty close in scale to 15" subs. For the box, I am thinking of using cardboard, but doubling up on the thickness to make it more stable, and then cover it in black headliner material. As for rolling stock, my boy has an F150 (same scale) that he is donating to the project with 22" spinners on it. I am going to remove the body, and mod the floor pan, and the axles to accomidate the larger wheels, and give them the ability to tuck into the wheel wells.
Body mods will include splitting the rear hatch door in two ( like the camelion one at P-Teazer), and look at the possability of modding Lambo doors. Then I will re-shoot the Tangerine Pearl again, with five coats of clear, and wet sanded to perfection!
I am also looking for ideas on neon. My current thought is on those $.99 battery operated christmas light sets, cutting it down to six lights, and changing out the bulbs to the color of choice. I was even thinking about stcking the ends into plastic tubing that would be scuffed down with steel wool to create mini neon tubes.
What are your thoughts on modding toys? Cheep fun!
