July 8, 2006I recently put new Continental Premier Contacts on my 2003 Ltd. chrome rim. One of them (passenger side rear) is losing 4-5 lbs of air per week. The car sits for several days at a time. I had the dealer and a reputable tire place check the tire and valve stem and all seems to be ok. Could this be a rim issue? Could the dealer have damaged the rim when mounting the new tire? The car has 28,000 miles and the new tires have 500 miles on them. Anyhelp/advice/suggestions are appreciated.

July 9, 2006Welcome to PTCW Scarlet.
You need to take it to a tire shop that can dip the hole wheel in water an see where the leak is. could be a beed leak or defective tire. if so you can break the bead an put a fine coat of wheel bearing grease on the rim where the tire mates to the rim.
July 9, 2006Thanks - the tire shop I went to put the tire in tank to check for any leaks. They found none. I'll have to go through the hassle of getting ahold of Tire Rack, getting a new tire, getting the new one mounted, and sending the old one back. I just hope it is indeed the tire and not the rim.
July 10, 2006Strange that there were no bubbles from the tank test. Would seem to me to be a bead issue since it apparently only leaks when weight of car is on tire....
