August 28, 2006Mobil 1 5-30 is a little hard to fine here in England. It gets very cold and winter is coming soon. What about using Mobil 1 0-50 I think 10 30 would be a little heavy for winter? Any input appreciated I know there are a few quite chilly places in the USA what do you all use? CEC

August 28, 2006Go with Amsoil.
They have a number of choices you can use, you can order it off the web site and get it delivered to your door (I would think they have a shipping hub in the UK) Plus they have better filters, You can choose a 25,000 mile oil (Not sure waht that is in KM) and filter and not have to worry about it for that long (or up to a year)
Of course I'm sure a few will chime in and disagree with this oil change interval, but Amsoil stakes a very good reputation on this claim and many people are already doing this with no probelms at all.
August 28, 2006Hey Cec,
I run the Mobile 1 5/30 in my 2.4 h/o turbo. A while back I was in a hurry at the store, and accidently picked up a case of 15/50, which apparently was a little too thick. It instantly developed a loud tapping noise under the hood, which turned out to be all 16 pucks on the end of my valves being scorched. Thinking it was a defective part, we replaced all the pucks, re-assembled the engine, and put the oil back in. After we replaced a "SECOND" set of pucks the following day, a light bulb went off in my head to look at the box that the oil came in, and that is how I made it into the record books for the worlds most expensive oil change! I can make them look good, just as long as they don't have to run. I am deffinitly not a mechanic, but just make sure it will work before hand. Good luck! Don
August 29, 2006Do they have a 0w 40? I think you'd be okay with the 0w in winter, maybe use the 10w 30 in summer, but the 50 is quite thick.
Something you could do is 2 quarts of 0w 50 and 3 quarts of 10w 30...

Castrol Synthetic Motor Oil is a good oil and I know that you can get it in England for I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath & RAF Bentwaters.
