October 28, 2006Sorry that this is my 1st post and kinda long, but the PT is the wifes, so I usually lurke just reading and learning. I spend most of my time either @ Corvette Forum (73) or the Jeepster Commando (6 place.
the culprit: 2002 PT Limited w/2.4, auto tranny, ~64K miles.
My wife was driving to work yesterday and her 01 PT just died. She said that it did not run rough, did not sputter nothing out of the ordinary other that the engine light came on and it just quit. so the 1st thiing is that the battery is real weak, pulled it and got a new one from Wally World. Engine turns, but still no crank. Check oil to see if maybe it's milky but its a normal color. I checked all the fuses, all seem good, could not see any blown fuses.
I can also hear the fuel pump, and I can smell gas after trying to crank it so I pretty sure its getting fuel to the throttle body.
Ran the diag test and no DTC codes via the dash test were apparent.
So if figure, what the heck, really sounded like a coil failed, needed to change plugs and wires anyway, so I pulled the coid pack and had it checked, according to the local parts house, it tested bad so I put a new one on.. Still no crank and still no DTC codes...
So, before I drag this thing to the auto shop Monday, any suggestions on other test or ideas of where to look?? Do I need to go buy one of the ODB code readers.
Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated
