December 15, 2006I cant get the 1 and 4 spark plugs out on my 04 cruiser. It is a 4 cyl. no turbo. The other two plugs came out just fine with a 5/8 socket. There is some sort of rubber on the 1 and 4 plug that prevents my socket from getting on it or could it be that the plug is set in too far and my socket can't reach it. It seems strange that these rubber things are only on the 1 and 4 plugs. These plugs have never been changed before. Do I need a special socket? I didn't break off any boots, etc. Please help.

December 15, 2006Sounds like the ruber end peice of the wire is still stuck on the plug.??
December 16, 2006PT Dave might have hit it on the head. Check the wire ends to see if your missing some of the rubber. Part of the plug wires might have stuck onto the plug when you pulled them off. Whatever it is, you'll have to find some sort of tool to get down into the hole and grab hold of the rubber and get it out of there.
December 18, 2006You sure the plugs were never changed? If you bought your PT used, they may have changed just 1 & 4 because they are easy to get to...
There are aftermarket plugs out there that have the "nut" part closer to the tip, and since the PT plugs reside in a recess, clearance for some sockets is a problem... I put Champion Irridium plugs in and I could tighten only so far, then the socket would hit the walls of the plug well and pull off the "nut" on the plug. I ground down the first 1/2" of the socket a bit (doesn't take much) and that cured my problem.
