January 30, 2007Trying to decide which tire size to run with new Motegi DPK 18x8 +35 offset rims. I am concerned the 225/40's would be a rough ride and not offer enough rim protection incase of accidently bumping a curb? Thoughts?

January 30, 2007I Have the 18"Motegi DPK rims and 235/40 18". I think you are right about the rim prtection, that's why I went with 235's
January 31, 2007I agree with Bruent. More tire is better. I fact, I am thinking about going down to 16's from my 17's becuase of the harsh ride. It handles very good around the corners, but I am tired of the rough ride. I ran the stock wheels for a few days while I was getting my new tires put on (195-65-15) oh how nice they rode for cruising...corners....yuck..so I am shooting for the middle..looking for some nice black 16's
The best tip I can give you is make sure you buy tires with the rim protectors. Like the Fuzion Zri's..no curb rash that way...check them out on tire rack. You can also read the reviews for each tire....it helps!!
February 1, 2007I went for 225/40/18 on a 18x7.5 rim. If I had gone with 18x8 I would have gone with 235.
My Pt rides rough as is on stock 16's 205/55/16. Has strut brace bar and sway bar. Soooo I'm not worried about it getting a little worse.
My advice if you need the smaller width tire 225 don't hit a curb, I know its hard but try not too.
Also make sure you will recieve spacers if needed. Read my horror story.
February 1, 2007be prepared...it will ride much rougher than you think. mine is tollerable, but not as comfortable as I would like it. And I am riding on 17's....18's even less tire..for a daily driver...I guess it all boils down to personal taste..I love the look of the 18's and 17's...and being able to corner like no tomorrow....just watch out for those potholes!!!! I have already lost one tire to a pothole!!
I can't wait to see the new wheels!!!!
