March 22, 2007ONE COOL EXTERIOR PAD MOD
Well, if any of you 2006-7 Cruisers have tried, you know that we are stuck (as yet) without an OEM rear step pad. An on-line company (I will not name) shipped me one, the sales person saying that it would fit my 2006 rear bumper. But, no it was the "through 2005 model" curved one.
-Well, my PT is my day car, and I haul a a lot of things in it, and play golf too and drag my bag, and occassionally forget that even though my golf shoe cleets are rubber, they will scar the paint. So I need protection! (bumper protection Don)
**So, I came up with an idea that I think is unique!!! Sooner cruiser is not full of OU Sooner logos yet. (You know, like chrome - never enough) So I roughened the paint in the rectangular step are. Using wide double-sided mounting tape, in two layers layed in opposite directions; I overlayed the OU Sooners logo of appropriate size, cutting out the logo in the tape; then mounted 3 of these on the rear bumper step area.
-Then I went to Line-X, and had them do a spray on bed liner on the bumper step pad area, preserving the logo (not to cover it too thick so as to wipoe out the letters.
**The result is, ONE UNIQUE REAR STEP PAD!! The only thing that could have been better, was do it in a matching red color. But, they wanted and extra $150 to do that. So, as a "non-sponsored" guy, black is fine with my crimson/cream/black theme. Pictures in my gallery; link below.
