June 23, 2007If your installing them in the fog lights, be warned that some owners have said they draw more current than then normal bulbs and that the multi-function switch that controls the normal lights and fog lights has burned out after putting in the Silverstar H.I.Ds. The cheap/flimsy control inside the multifunction switch can't handle any more current than the normal bulbs.
I went with the Sylvania Silverstar High Performance Halogen 9006 ST/2 for the headlights and MAX Super Xe Simulated H.I.D. White Beam for the fogs and haven't had any trouble in 2 years. Got em both at Wal-Mart.
June 23, 2007i went with the 9006xs st's they are in the low beams. im lookin to do the fogs next though!
June 23, 2007OK, so you didn't actually go and switch over to H.I.Ds. HIDs take a lot of extra work to fit in and some extra wiring (I'm told). You should be alright with the ST's. I was only going to do the headlights, but when I saw the difference between the lights and fogs, I just had to switch the fogs over too. They fogs were almost yellow in comparison to the Super White headlights.
June 23, 2007lol, oh, well i consider anything that is brighter then stock HID's lol.
yah fogs will be next week i think. i posted some pics of the install down in the lights section!
June 24, 2007Carey, were the fog lights the Sylvania brand also?? I think I may do my for lights too. I bought some Sylvania bulbs for the headlights about 2 years ago that are actually white instead of yellow, can't remember which ones though.
June 24, 2007Jeff,
No, the fog light bulbs I got from Wal-Mart are 9006 XS (12V 55W) and are made by MAX. The package says Super White Xe. Simulated H.I.D. White Beam.
The headlights are Sylvania but they are the 9006 ST.
June 24, 2007Cool Carey, thanks. I didn't know the name was Max, I may go pick up a pair sometime soon.
June 26, 2007Yeah I put the Sylvania Silverstars in my low-beams, pretty much when I first got my car.. I had them in my old car and loved them, and I love them in my new PT. A nice white light instead of that nasty orangish color of normal bulbs
And they are not true HID, HID go for hundreds of dollars per kit and are bright as hell.. These are just a brighter, whiter halogen bulb. But still awesome!
June 26, 2007Just a reminder to not touch the bulb. also put the old ones in the case that the silver star's came in.Then put them in the PT so if ever you get a light that burns out you have a bulb to put in.
June 27, 2007I've got mine tucked away in the glovebox just in case!!!!
June 27, 2007I installed the SilverStar's in high beams, low beams, and fogs approx two (2) years ago with no wiring/switch troubles . . I had major trouble installing them though, couldn't reach in (fat hands?) to seat them . . Tried from the engine compartment for the passenger side and ended-up with my arm stuck between two sharp objects (cut, scraped, and bleeding) . . That was fun! . . Richard
