February 2, 2008I sure hope so...I'll let ya know...
February 4, 2008Well, I had a great weekend. I parked the PT when I got home Friday because the puddle under it has increased,...so I think I'll take the wife's Durango instead as it runs great....Well the serpentine belt snapped haf way to drop off my son in Ontario so I had to have it towed to the repair shop. Hopefully it is just the belt and worst case it neds a new tensioner...that should ge repaired today, then I can drop off the PT to get it fixed.
Everything I read on the internet this weekend say I most likley need the steering rack changed...great...from what I have seen that's a rather large job where the cross member has to be dropped, so the labor will be big $$$. Everything I saw was about 1100.000...yikes!!!
So my delima continues...I will update you once she is back from the shop...;(
On the up side....I had In and Out Burger for dinner Friday night!!!
February 5, 2008ok...it was the steering rack (rack and opinion)so Chysler quoted me $711.00 plus tax...not too bad considering everything I read said about $1000.00. Well I took it to my wife's mechanic and he looked at it and it is going to cost $630.00 out the door.
So, It will be done tomorrow and I will be really broke!! What caused it? Who knows...the high quality chysler parts?? who knows...my wife swears it is because I lowered it...(anytime anything is wrong with my PT, it's because it's lowered).... Maybe...who knows or cares at this point, it's not like I am going to put it back to stock..lol...
So if you rack and pinion goes...here is about what it will cost you..I was going to try to do it myself, but removing the cross member kind of worried me so in the long run this will be cheaper...and a lot less frustrating...
February 5, 2008Not sure I'd tackle it, either. Sorry, but better than $1,100!
February 6, 2008QSD..I am just not as brave as I used to be..and I don't have the right tools to handle a job that big...plus the "I told you so" from the wife won't be heard this way..lol
February 6, 2008Hey Everyone,
Sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation! Mine started whining the other day, but my mechanic told me I have a very small leak around one of the hose fittings, but wasn't leaking enough to really get too worked up about it at that time, so I am hoping that is still all it is! I had to laugh though cause I think we are all in the same boat! If anything goes wrong on the PT, the very first words out of my wifes mouth is "Well everything was fine, but you just had to go and lower it"! yeah I know especially since my ride is sitting solid in the front even with half cut bump stops that every time I hit a pothole, its doing great things for my ride, but just like you said, is that ever going to make me put back the stock springs even as they sit in my back room??? Not on your life!!!
Anyways, glad to hear you got it taken care of, and that even though it is a big chunk of change, that you got it done by a mechanic, and at a decent price!
So, take it easy!
