April 17, 2008My 2001 limited, purchaed pre owned with no servuice records, and now 81000 miles I am certain needs a tune up. I checked members for recommendations as to plugs and wires. thats where the confusion came in. Champion platiun tps or are champions crap? I read both sides. Crane wires or live wire wires. that one seems pretty equal as to choice. Please from guys with experience, please reply.Aside, I will have to have my local mechanic-not the dealer , do the tune-up.

April 19, 2008I'm using Crane firewires and NGK Iridiums and it runs perfect. In fact it runs a good deal better than it did when we bought it with only 10k on the clock.
April 19, 2008And as a side note, I don't know how handy you are but there is a good "tutorial" on here somewhere with pics on how to do this yourself.
April 19, 2008Champions are fine, platinum or irridiums last longer, but the stock wires are the real problem. I like the Cranes, but don't waste money on stock wires.
Also a Tech Bulletin says to gap at 0.040, not the 0.050 in the original manual.
April 19, 2008Another side note. My Iridiums came pre-gapped atg orig factory specs (.054 if I remember right)And I have no problems.
I have to wonder if the only problem isn't the wires and the factory's fix was to re-gap the plug.
My orig plan was to first try the orig gap and if I had problems I would re-gap. But I didn't so no problem.
